Born in Kazakhstan and fighting out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Ramil Kamilov returns to MMA this Saturday at Unified MMA 67 to take on fellow undefeated welterweight Romario Orozco.
After compiling a 6-4 record during an amateur career that began in 2017 and ended in the summer of 2021, Kamilov made his pro debut in late 2021 with Canadian regional promotion Unified MMA and scored a first-round TKO. “Mr. Real Deal” didn’t even see a third round until 2023, when he took a unanimous decision at Absolute MMA 3 to bring his pro record to 6-0.
Kamilov got back to his finishing ways later that year when he returned to Unified MMA and submitted Roberto Pixley before winning by unanimous decision for the second time in a lightweight bout against Tom O’Connor, who came into the night with a 13-2 record that included four-straight finishes leading up to the matchup. Following another first-round finish during the summer of 2025, the 28-year-old closed out last year with a third-round stoppage in the main event of the inaugural card for Canadian Bare Knuckle Championship.
Boasting five wins via KO/TKO out of his seven finishes in pro MMA, Kamilov throws his counter shots with bad intentions whenever an opponent decides to try and pressure him. Mainly relying on his jab and right straight to initially damage opponents on the counter or while coming forward himself, the undefeated welterweight will get significantly more aggressive and really open up with hooks to the head and body once he senses that his opposition might be hurt.
Kamilov does a good job of stopping his opponents in their tracks with counters before they can really get anything going on the feet, and he also really puts his weight behind punishing low kicks to the outside of their lead leg. He’s also quick to clinch up and try to establish control of his opponent’s head in close quarters, allowing him land nasty knees to the head and body and also look to land short elbows.
“Mr. Real Deal” also likes to hit outside trips from the clinch or drag things to the mat from a rear body lock, and he always tries to make opponents continue carrying his weight if they manage to work back to their knees. Kamilov ideally likes to land straight in half guard if he manages to hit a trip takedown, and he’ll keep tight chest pressure while looking for opportunities to set up an arm triangle choke or try to move into mount.
Kamilov’s undefeated record and finishing rate are obviously eye-catching stats, and his win against a credentialed veteran in O’Connor really stands out from the other names on his record. Matching up two undefeated fighters is always an easy way to sell a fight to combat sports fans, and a win over Orozco this weekend would likely set Kamilov up for an opportunity on Dana White’s Contender Series, or perhaps even a call to fight on the recently-announced UFC Winnipeg card.
