Representing Team Angola at the 2026 IMMAF African Championships, Helder Manuel has hit the mainstream after capturing gold in the Super Heavyweight division.
The 25-year-old is quite the character, busting out a number of dance moves after finishing his opponent in the first round of his most recent bout. Currently riding a six-fight win streak, Manuel holds a 9-3-0 amateur record after beginning his career at 3-3-0.
The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt possesses an impressive ground game, with submissions by arm triangle, smother choke, and more. He also rounds out his game with an excellent, explosive skill set on the feet. Manuel is a talented striker both at range and in the pocket, pairing his technique with legitimate knockout power. He often hurts opponents with a quick, pawing right hand, a deceptively simple weapon that lets him control the pocket, freezing opponents long enough to explode into bigger combinations.
Defensively, Helder Manuel has progressed significantly over his young career. While he may have once been considered vulnerable on the mats, Manuel has since shored up his grappling defense. Opponents are constantly testing him, likely due to his smaller stature. However, his true advantages shine through in how responsible he is while striking. The Angola-native protects his lead leg with stiff checks and keeps his guard high, actively downloading information to find openings for the finishing strike.
