It’s been quite a few months for heavyweight prospect Josh Davis. The 26-year-old has made a massive splash since beginning his MMA career in March, securing two knockout victories in his first two bouts.
A striker by trade, Davis brings a dynamic kickboxing base to MMA, having first debuted in combat sports as a kickboxer at Shamrock FC 369 in 2025. He shows a level of comfort both in the pocket and at range that is rare to find at heavyweight, setting up his offense with feints before finding the power shot. Davis also moves well for the division, flashing solid athleticism in bursts that allows him to chase down vulnerable opponents when they’re on the retreat.
The Midwest native is a refreshing watch; you definitely won’t find any heavyweight slog here. Through all three combat sports appearances, Davis has amassed just 2:28 of cage time, dispatching his most recent opponent in only six seconds with a gorgeous right hand.
Hailing from Marathon MMA, Davis trains under current UFC veteran Trey Ogden. A world-renowned jiu-jitsu specialist, Ogden has built a strong room filled with rising amateur talent, including names like Ollie Mace. For Davis specifically, that guidance could be the perfect fit. While the heavyweight has shown clear upside on the feet, questions still remain about his ground game, as he has been largely untested through two MMA bouts. With the help of “Shamurai,” Davis has the right coach in his corner to continue rounding out his skill set and developing into a more complete fighter.
Time will tell with Davis, as the trajectory of fighters in the heavier weight classes can fluctuate overnight. But through just two mixed martial arts fights, he is already showing signs of becoming a major problem on the Midwestern regional scene. Expect the young heavyweight to continue his rise, stay active, and potentially make his professional debut in the near future.
