Nearly a year removed from his last MMA fight, Namo Fazil will compete on the biggest stage of his career when he meets Jake Babian in the final prelim fight of MVP MMA 1, which is headlined by Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano.
Fazil began his professional MMA career with three-straight wins in 2021 before suffering what stands as his only career loss at UAE Warriors 31 the following year. Back-to-back knockouts in 2023 set up the opportunity for him to defeat Jae Woong Yoon in a wild slugfest at ONE Friday Fights 49 in early 2024, and the 29-year-old went on to close out the year with back-to-back finishes.
Last year saw Fazil knock out the formerly-undefeated Yakub Sulimanov in the third round at 971 FC 2, and he also won his Karate Combat debut in December when he took a split decision over Guilherme Bastos.
At his best when an opponent want to stand and trade strikes with him, Fazil has good timing with his right hand and likes to crack opponents with it as part of a 1-2 or as a big overhand shot on the counter. He’ll also chip away with low kicks to help set up his punches and mixes in the occasional high kick with his rear leg.
The 29-year-old likes to ducks his head and blitz in with flurries of punches coming forward, but he’s also good about standing his ground on an advancing opponent and will bite down and throw big combinations to give himself some space or set up the chance for him to go on the attack again.
Fazil showed off some considerable power in his left hook when he floored Sulimanov in his last fight, and he also had the chance to showcase some solid takedown defense during the first two rounds. While he prefers to get his work done on the feet, the welterweight will head to the ground when the opportunity presents itself and has several wins via rear naked choke on his record.
Although the prelim portion of MVP MMA 1 airs on YouTube rather than Netflix, this matchup with Babian is still a massive opportunity for Fazil to introduce himself to countless new fans. Babian also has plenty of finishes on his record but has faced a considerably lower-level of competition up to this point, so a strong performance on a major card could set Fazil up for some big opportunities in the near future.
