European MMA continues to establish itself as the second major hub of the sport worldwide. In the Balkans, FNC is gaining momentum, while in France, Hexagone MMA and Ares FC continue to strengthen their position. In Spain, WOW FC has emerged as the new promotion to watch. The UFC has recognized this potential and recently announced its arrival in a new country, Serbia. All of these organizations provide numerous opportunities for European prospects to develop and shine on the continental stage. In this article, we present five new names from across Europe that deserve close attention.
Chris Morris – 2-0
Amateur Record: 11-2
Division: Welterweight
Nationality: English
Promotion: Cage Warriors
Finishes: 1 TKO
England seems to be an endless source of talent on the European scene, and Chris Morris is among the latest British prospects to keep an eye on. Morris first made a name for himself on the English amateur circuit, where he enjoyed a highly successful career. His greatest achievement was becoming UK FC champion in three different weight classes: Lightweight, Light Welterweight, and Welterweight. This rare feat made him one of the most highly regarded names on the British scene in 2022 and 2023. During his amateur career, he also earned a victory over future IMMAF world champion Zé Machado.
His amateur run promised great things for his professional debut, but those expectations took time to materialize. Morris spent two years away from competition, despite being scheduled to face Biaggio Ali Walsh in the PFL in 2024. An injury forced him out of the bout, and he had to wait until late 2025 to make his MMA return under the Cage Warriors banner. Since then, he has been much more active, fighting twice in six months. His first victory was a dominant decision win from start to finish, while his second outing ended with a second-round TKO.
Morris’ game is built around strong wrestling and solid grappling. He consistently manages to bring the fight to the ground thanks to elite chain wrestling and always seems to find answers to his opponents’ defensive reactions. Once on the mat, he inflicts damage through ground-and-pound to secure rounds and excels at taking dominant positions, especially the back. He applies relentless pressure that prevents his opponents from getting back to their feet. This approach allowed him to dominate at the amateur level and make an impressive start to his professional career. However, it should be noted that his style is not the most entertaining.
Striking remains the weakest aspect of Morris’ game. Although he’s rarely put in difficult situations on the feet, due to his ability to quickly initiate grappling exchanges. He still appears to have significant room for improvement in that department. His fight against Denis Frimpong (8-3 as a professional) exposed some of those deficiencies and ended in a brutal knockout loss. He seems to have made slight improvements since then, but not enough to make him a serious threat standing. So far, he has successfully imposed his wrestling on his opponents, but it remains to be seen whether this formula will continue to work against tougher competition.
Nevertheless, Chris Morris is one of the latest gems produced by Cage Warriors. In a promotion renowned for developing prospects, he should have plenty of time to improve and gain valuable experience.
Rubik Virabyan – 5-0
Division: Bantamweight
Nationality: Armenian/Georgian
Promotion: Rkena FC
Finishes: 5 (3 submissions, 2 TKOs)
The rise of Rkena FC has helped shine a spotlight on Georgian prospects, and Rubik Virabyan is one of the fighters benefiting from this growing exposure. At just 20 years old, he already boasts an impressive 5-0 professional record. Before turning pro, Virabyan enjoyed a successful amateur career, claiming a 13-1 record according to his Instagram page. Despite his young age, he has already accumulated valuable experience. His record is even more remarkable considering that he has finished every opponent he has faced, including three first-round victories.
Virabyan relies on strong wrestling and excellent grappling. He has shown a natural ability to secure dominant positions on the ground, maintain control over his opponents, and scramble effectively to deny them opportunities to stand back up. His ground-and-pound is efficient and often opens the door to submission opportunities.
His fight against Otabek Nematov demonstrated his ability to quickly transition from one submission attempt to another as his opponent changed positions. Although his first four fights came against relatively modest opposition, they allowed him to gain experience. His latest bout against Juan Trujillo (6-1), a much more experienced opponent, further confirmed the potential many had already seen. Virabyan delivered a masterclass, submitting Trujillo with a ninja choke after just one minute.
Questions remain regarding his striking, as he has spent very little time exchanging on the feet so far. However, what little he has shown appears promising, particularly his timing on boxing counters.
Virabyan is still extremely young and remains a diamond in the rough, but his potential appears enormous. He could become one of the next elite fighters to emerge from Georgia. The key question now is how Rkena FC will manage his development and what level of opposition he will face in the future.
Giannis Kazantzidis – 5-0
Division: Heavyweight
Nationality: Greek
Promotion: MCP
Finishes: 5 (5 KO/TKOs)
Greece is certainly not one of the countries most associated with MMA success in Europe. However, a few fighters have started to emerge from the country in recent years, and Giannis Kazantzidis is among its most promising talents.
He has established himself as one of the biggest names on the current Greek scene as the reigning MCP heavyweight champion. Kazantzidis has already defended his title three times and stands as the promotion’s dominant champion. Before claiming heavyweight gold, he captured the light heavyweight title in his professional debut. These accomplishments already make him one of the top fighters in Greece today.
What makes his record even more impressive is the fact that he has finished every opponent he has faced, including four first-round stoppages. His knockout power, coupled with his desire to end fights as quickly as possible, makes him a dangerous striker. Four finishes in one minute or less clearly demonstrate that when he steps into the cage, he is looking to put his opponent away. He also displayed solid takedown defense against Magomed Ibragimov (4-1), although that fight exposed some major cardio issues.
Kazantzidis is coming off a significant victory over Jouffie Houlton (8-5), a respected veteran of the European circuit. That win proved that he is not simply a fighter padding his record, but a genuine prospect worth investing in. However, to continue his development, he will eventually have to leave Greece and the MCP in search of tougher opposition. Promotions such as FNC or Armmada seem like ideal destinations to help him climb toward the world’s elite organizations. Kazantzidis remains young for a heavyweight and has both time and potential on his side as he aims for the highest level.
Michael Obodozie – 1-0
Amateur Record: 5-0
Division: Welterweight
Nationality: German
Promotion: Oktagon MMA
Finishes: 1 KO
Michael Obodozie burst onto the German MMA scene in spectacular fashion. Drawn against IMMAF world champion Chiril Negru in the first amateur bout in Oktagon history, Obodozie entered the fight as a clear underdog. The result? A devastating knockout in just 15 seconds.
Following that statement victory, he signed with Oktagon for his professional debut. However, his win over Negru was no fluke. Obodozie had already recorded three first-round knockouts during his amateur career. His knockout power is his greatest weapon and allowed him to quickly establish himself among the top amateur fighters in Germany. While he may not be the most technical striker and often prefers wild exchanges, when he lands clean, opponents go to sleep.
After defeating Negru, he made his professional debut under the Oktagon banner and scored another spectacular first-round knockout, confirming the promise he had shown as an amateur. He also showcased devastating ground-and-pound in that fight, adding another weapon to his arsenal. Another encouraging sign was his ability to defend a takedown attempt, suggesting that his grappling may be solid. So far, however, we have seen very little of his wrestling and ground game. It remains to be seen how he will perform when tested in those areas.
Although Obodozie’s start has been highly promising, one could argue that staying amateur a little longer might have benefited his development. While his striking is lethal, any potential deficiencies in wrestling and grappling could have been addressed before turning professional. Now competing in Oktagon, there is less room for error. Fortunately, the promotion appears to believe in him and is allowing him to develop gradually before increasing the level of competition. With his exciting style and fight-ending power, Obodozie possesses all the ingredients to become a European star. The next chapter of his career promises to be fascinating.
Nikola Todorovic – 3-0
Kickboxing record: 29-4
Division: Welterweight
Nationality: Serbian
Promotion: Armmada
Finishes: 3 (2 KOs, 1 submission)
Last month, I highlighted five European prospects coming from striking disciplines. Nikola Todorovic could easily have been included on that list. With an impressive 29-4 kickboxing record and appearances in both Senshi and Glory, he was part of the European elite in the sport.
After a successful kickboxing career, he made the transition to MMA in 2025. He quickly attracted attention on the Serbian scene with standout performances in Armmada and Brave CF. Three finishes inside one minute have shown that his striking translates exceptionally well to MMA. In his latest fight, devastating body shots folded his opponent in just 30 seconds. He also displayed a solid guillotine choke in his second bout. That suggests that he has put considerable work into his wrestling defense and grappling.
Former kickboxers are always fascinating prospects in MMA. Their striking makes them exciting fighters, but their wrestling and grappling abilities usually remain major question marks until they are truly tested. The same applies to Todorovic. His striking is elite, but the next step will be to see how he fares against a strong wrestler. So far, he has managed his career intelligently, gaining experience against relatively modest opposition.
Armmada remains an excellent platform for developing Serbian talent, and Todorovic should continue to gain experience there while becoming one of the faces of MMA in the country. An intriguing next step would be a move to FNC, the premier promotion in the Balkans. The UFC has historically appreciated accomplished kickboxers and has announced plans to hold events in Serbia, which means Todorovic could earn his opportunity on the biggest stage sooner rather than later.
