Shawn Bitter- Reynoso had a chance against Hailai, but that quickly diminished against Bertolso. Bertolso has ideal size for the strawweight division and is well-rounded, though her grappling remains her strongest asset.

WMMA can be hard to predict, but I struggle to find a path to victory for Reynoso here. Bertolso has the length and range to keep her on the outside, and if Reynoso looks to grapple, Bertolso is better there as well.

Pick: Bertolso by Round 2 Submission

Cedric Dumas- Bertolso getting this short-notice opportunity is a gift. She enters DWCS as the LFA strawweight champion at 7-0 after defeating highly regarded prospect Lany Silva. Before turning professional, she went 16-1 as an amateur, with a résumé loaded with quality wins.

The biggest weapon here is her grappling. Bertolso is an excellent MMA grappler who consistently finds finishing positions, and that skill set creates a major problem for Reynoso.

Reynoso has the more immediately recognizable record and was considered for TUF 34, but she did not make the house after tryouts. Her replacement opportunity also fell through when Wushamo withdrew. More importantly, her level of opposition has not matched Bertolso’s.

The loss on Reynoso’s record also hasn’t aged particularly well, especially compared with the quality of wins Bertolso has accumulated. This matchup should ultimately come down to where the fight takes place. On the feet, Reynoso has enough ability to make things interesting. On the ground, however, Bertolso should have a significant advantage. I expect her to close the distance early, get the fight to the mat and start hunting for the submission immediately.

Pick: Bertolso by Round 1 Submission

Nicholas Holt- Keeping this one short and sweet- I like Camila Reynoso, but she has a very slim chance of winning this fight. Aieza Bertolso is an absolute beast and is easily the best women’s prospect in the world right now. Bertolso could go for the submission or the knockout, but either way, this fight is over in one round.

Pick: Bertolso by Round 1 Submission

Xavi Ryder– After looking like she wasn’t going to get to fight this season, it is nice to see Bertolso get a shot to earn a UFC contract. In my opinion, she is the best WMMA prospect outside of the UFC, and I expect her to walk away with a contract on Tuesday.

Both are primary grapplers, but Bertolso has the advantage on the feet. She has a great kicking game and uses all her long-range weapons well. In the clinch, Bertolso is also effective with knees and elbows. This is all bad news for Reynoso because, on top of all this, Bertolso is also the better grappler. Reynoso has a great pace on the ground, is always looking to finish the fight, and scrambles well, but Bertolso is just a level above. We have seen Reynoso taken down by lower-level fighters before, so I think Bertolso will have a lot of success.

Pick: Bertolso by Round 1 Submission

Drew Beaupre– Bertolso seemed like a lock for DWCS this year, but it was only after Haili Wushamo pulled out of her matchup with Reynoso that the undefeated LFA champion was called in to fight for a UFC contract.

Reynoso could definitely cause some problems for Bertolso while this fight stays standing, but Bertolso holds a pretty sizeable advantage in the grappling. She’s also coming off a massive win against another top strawweight prospect, Lany Silva, and has a wealth of high-level amateur experience, while Reynoso simply hasn’t been tested against the same type of competition yet.

I expect Reynoso to join the UFC at some point and likely find success with the promotion, but this is a tough out for her against arguably the best female prospect in MMA.

Pick: Bertolso by Round 2 Submission

Cangrejo Ruiz- Bringing Bertolso on short notice doesn’t really make sense, as she is the best regional WMMA prospect in my opinion, but at least she is here. She is a great grappler and has been improving her striking. I am not a fan of Reynoso; her striking looks mediocre against bad opposition, and her ground game is nowhere near Bertolso’s.

Pick: Bertolso by Round 1 Submission

Benjamin Keith – I am a fan of both Women here, and I think both will end up in the UFC, but there is a clear difference in prospect caliber. One is a well-rounded prospect in Reynoso, who is tough, has good kickboxing, and can more than hold her own on the ground. To me, she isn’t particularly dangerous, even if she is good everywhere. She is only 23 and will keep getting better.

Bertolso is a couple of years older and is riding a 21-fight win streak across amateur and pro. On the feet, there’s more I want to see. She is fundamentally sound, but there’s not always a ton of pop to her strikes. Her grappling, though, is the best tool either fighter has in this fight. She has a knack for always ending up in top position, and her slick, quick BJJ has produced more finishes than Reynoso. If someone finishes this fight, it’s going to be Bertolso.

I am not discounting Reynoso’s chances here; she is bulldog tough and willing to throw hands. She could put on a pace and grind out a decision. However, I have faith in Bertolso’s ability to get this fight to the ground and finish with either ground and pound or another armbar.
