Ken Sekeletu
24 years old – Zimbabwe – EFC Africa – 6-1 (1 NC)
The only major barrier Sekeletu seems to have to being a major league star in MMA is that he needs to learn what constitutes the back of the head. When he beat TUF alumni Roedie Roets, there were a couple of shots that were questionable. Roets appealed the loss, but Sekeletu got to keep the win. In his next title defence against Billy Oosthuizen, he did the same thing. That time, he didn’t get away with it and walked away without his title and with his undefeated record wiped out.
Assuming he can figure that out, Sekeletu is a major talent. This is a guy with ridiculous athleticism who was dominating these fights anyway. He’s got some power, he pressures really well, he can wrestle, he’s got good top control, and he has the cardio to keep doing it. He would be 8–0 without the fouling incidents, including a win overturned by a low blow. Still, he’ll likely need to reclaim his title before the UFC looks his way, as they rarely sign fighters coming off a loss regardless of circumstance.
