Global Watchlist: The Best MMA Prospect From Each Country

Netherlands

 

The Netherlands has always had long-tenured UFC fighters. Although it’s hard to say he’ll be one of those at this point, Wouter van Bussel (2-0) has the most potential. Six kickboxing bouts, 3-0 in boxing, 11-3 amateur MMA, and now 2-0 as a pro. Bussel is well-rounded and ahead of his time for 22. He’s patient and calculated. A variety of tools on both the feet and the mat. With time and more experience in Levels Fight League, we’ll get more answers soon enough.

 

New Zealand

 

New Zealand goes right along with Australia, being a popular market the UFC likes to pick from. Fergus Jenkins (4-0) is the most ready prospect from New Zealand despite being just 4-0. Young in his career as a pro, Jenkins went 12-1 as an amateur and was an Oceania and World gold medalist. Jenkins is a really good wrestler with a smothering ground game. Ten career submissions, so you know what the gameplan is. Being a middleweight opportunity will come sooner than later, so he’s held under a spotlight more so than many others.

 

Pakistan

 

Pakistan has someone to be hopeful in with Ismail Khan (12-1). Boasting a combined 24–2 record between his pro and amateur fights. His only setbacks came against elite opposition in Shakhban Gapizov and Yryskeldi Duysheev. Khan has finished eight of his twelve victories—mostly by submission, with a pair of knockouts mixed in. Something like RTU would be a great stepping stone to an UFC opportunity.

 

Peru

 

There is a lot of talent to pick from but we’ve seen many times once they reach the higher level they don’t have the same success. One I feel confident about is Jeremy de la Mata (10-0). He’s the current FFC flyweight champion with two title defenses. He’s coming off a win over Braian González which is a good indication that he’s got promise. At 22, he’s already shown a lot to be confident in his future.
